Coaching with Confidence Coaching Skills Programme

Welcome to our rigorous EMCC accredited Level 5, competency-based, Coaching Skills Programme designed to enhance your organisation’s coaching capability.

Your journey

Delivered face to face or in a virtual learning environment, this programme consists of 5 modules, each 1 day in duration and usually scheduled a month apart, providing a challenging programme spanning 16 weeks. It is designed around a set of “Coaching with Confidence” Core Competencies and includes the latest thinking in Solution Focused Coaching, Positive Psychology and Neuroscience. It is supported by an integrated programme of practice & experimentation, reading and self-reflection and culminates in an assessment of your coaching skills. This ensures the practical application of the skills developed.

What you can expect

You can expect to receive world-class training from our Post Graduate qualified coaches, all of whom are MBTI and EQi2.0/360 qualified, Mental Health First Aid trained and ICF PCC/EMCC Senior Practitioner accredited. The programme itself has received outstanding feedback from EMCC, and they have accredited it to Level 5 for individuals wishing to receive a recognised professional qualification (EIA) – a fantastic recognition of the quality and pragmatic approach that is unique to this programme!

The programme is designed to ensure that it fits with your own organisation’s values, behaviours, and learning goals – it will feel like it was designed just for you.

This programme can also be delivered on a one-to-one basis for Executives and those individuals that have a preference for this learning style – we call this ‘Executive Coaching with Confidence’.

Modules

Heightened self awareness

This energising and insightful day is unique to Matthew Radley & Associates, as we build every delegate’s levels of self awareness with intense personal learning and reflection ahead of going onto the core 4 modules of coach training skills.

Delegates will be exposed to a blend of theories including Goleman’s Leadership Styles, Wheel of life, Personal Values, Transactional Analysis Drivers, and MBTI. An experiential day packed full of enhanced learning techniques to embed the increased levels of self awareness. A fantastic set up to what comes next – Module 1 ‘Coach awareness and developing the coaching relationship’.

Coach awareness and developing the coaching relationship

This interactive day will focus on the following “Coaching with Confidence” Core Competencies:

  1. Demonstrating self awareness – heightened awareness of self as coach and an understanding of how this may impact on the coaching relationship
  2. Building trust and rapport – ability to create a safe and supportive environment that produces mutual on-going trust and respect

Having examined what coaching is and isn’t and the opportunity that coaching presents for you in your workplace, we explore what you bring to the coaching relationship and how this might help or hinder you as coach. We encourage reflection around your strengths, values, drivers and preferences.

We examine the neuroscience around trust and how you can build trust and rapport with your clients. We draw on the theory of Transactional Analysis and explore the implications of this in creating a coaching mind-set.

Unlike many traditional models of coaching we explore whether a stance of high support is sufficient on it’s own and examine the benefits of adopting a more challenging approach to your coaching.

Developing yourself as a “person-centred” performance coach

This interactive day will focus on the following “Coaching with Confidence” Core Competencies:

  1. Focused listening – ability to focus completely on what the client is saying and not saying; to understand the meaning of what is being said
  2. Asking powerful coaching questions – ability to ask questions that reveal the information needed for maximum benefit to the client and the coaching relationship

We start Module 2 with a review of what practice, reading, reflection and learning has taken place since the first module.

We then introduce you to a Solution Focused coaching approach and help you to sharpen both your listening and questioning skills.

We provide lots of opportunity to practice your coaching skills and to receive feedback against the “Coaching with Confidence” Core Competencies from both your professional trainer and peers.

Positive psychology and effective feedback

This interactive day will focus on the following “Coaching with Confidence” Core Competencies:

  1. Championing the client – identifies major strengths, provides on-going support for and champions new behaviours and actions
  2. Giving and receiving effective feedback and challenge – ability to provide (and receive) meaningful feedback to the client, always from a position of positive intent

Module 3 starts with a review of what practice, reading, reflection and learning has taken place since the second module.

We quickly move into a review of what coaching can draw from the field of Positive Psychology and give you the opportunity to practice your coaching around a series of strengths-based tools.

Building on the earlier work regarding creating an environment of high support and helpful challenge we then focus on the field of feedback. We explore what gets in the way of giving feedback and share some tools to help you overcome these barriers.

As before there will be ample opportunities to practice your coaching and to receive high-quality feedback.

You as a truly confident coach

This final day will focus on the following “Coaching with Confidence” Core Competencies:

  1. Setting goals and reviewing progress – ability to support the client to set goals / design actions; to leave the client with the responsibility to take action; to hold the client to account in relation to agreed upon actions
  2. Commitment to learning and self-development – ability to reflect on own coaching experience, with a commitment to your on-going development as a coach

Module 4 is a culmination and a high point in your training. Following the usual review and reflection you will be introduced to some coach tools to help set goals, review progress and mobilise your clients towards action.

You will then have the opportunity to put into practice all that you have learned over the 4 modules during an observed practice. Your professional trainer and peers will provide you with motivating feedback against the competencies, giving you the opportunity to reflect on your ability and progress. You will then have an opportunity to reflect on this feedback in the context of your continual professional development.

Outside of the 5 modules we recommend an integrated programme of coach practice, reading and reflection to ensure the maximum return on investment:

  • Select 3 people that you intend to coach (usually team members)
  • Commit to a minimum of 3 coaching conversations in-between modules
  • Undertake a comprehensive set of reading and research, review and reflection, as well as logging your activity using a Digital Logbook – all of which is required to be recorded for EMCC awarding purposes
  • Undertake some reading from the reading list provided and produce reflection notes
  • Complete the “review and reflection” coaching supervision questions in your Personal Learning Journal
“Success measures” will be agreed at the start of the experience to enable all parties to measure the return on expectation during and at the end of the programme. These would typically consist of a combination of both short-term and long-term measures, at both the individual and organisational level. For example, some organisations choose to undertake pre and post EQ-i 360 evaluations.
